This song should lift the spirits of everyone who is out of a job, unemployed, or has ever been unemployed. Who could not relate to this title? And as a starving musician and wandering minstrel, finding and keep a job was a real challenge. It is a blues song with hope and a surprise happy ending. To keep it up and happy, I wrote it in my ragtime guitar style and put it on my In Concert album.
I'VE GOT THE UNEMPLOYMENT APPLICATION BLUES
THERE ISN'T A JOB THAT I WOULD REFUSE
I'VE GOT THE UNEMPLOYMENT APPLICATION BLUES
(mouth horn)
WHAT HAVE I GOT TO LOSE?
I drew my number to collect my claim
But my future don't hang on my health insurance or my welfare claims
My punchcard states, "Do not bend, spindle, or mutilate."
But you see this player piano has stolen my roll
