This song is based on a story told to me about when a man was an only child and would go to the circus to see a circus giant that he looked up to literally and figuratively. The giant was as tall as a certain branch on this tree. When the man was a child, it looked like this giant was as high as the sky. But when the man became an adult, he then visited the circus grounds and saw the very same tree again, was amazed that now he was taller than this branch!
THANK YOU PAUL, NOW YOU KNOW WE ALL MUST FALL
SOONER OR LATER, IT HAPPENS TO US ALL
ALL THINGS MUST PAST, A FLOWER FADES, A WREATHE IS LAID
ALL FLESH IS GRASS, SOON IT WITHERS, FOR ONLY HIS WORD WILL LAST
THANK YOU PAUL
So now your albums are in cut-out bins
Discount specials from all of your sins
Do grown up children, still call you on the phone
Well I guess they don't know you were always alone
Does anybody really know that your name is really Paul
Well I guess they're done playing with Porcelin dolls
Thank you Paul
